How can you integrate UGC into your existing content strategy?

By the Séjournée editorial team · Sources checked on · Updated on · Published on

UGC belongs in an existing strategy when it solves a specific information gap, not because you need another category of posts. Creator videos should work with photographs, room pages, emails and campaigns.

Decide where each asset will be useful before building the calendar.

Identify what your communication explains poorly

Start with questions received by reception and the information on important website pages.

Can travellers understand parking access, room-category differences, breakfast conditions or late arrival?

Rank those questions by importance and how poorly they are currently answered. Not every gap needs UGC: a labelled photograph or short paragraph may be enough.

The UGC and professional photography comparison helps match the format to the need.

Give every asset a role

Need Content Possible placement Main check
Introduce the property Short stay narrative Social channels Quickly understandable message
Help guests choose Room comparison Category page Accurate match to the offer
Resolve hesitation Answer to a common question Relevant page or email Correct information
Support an offer Clear offer-led video Dedicated campaign Rights and dates
Prepare arrival Practical demonstration Pre-stay communication Current instructions

These are possible placements. Check rights, technical constraints and communication requirements before publishing.

Plan versions before filming

Vertical footage cannot always be cropped into a useful horizontal edit. Music may be cleared for one placement but not another.

Include required versions in the brief and commission those you actually expect to use.

For example, you might need a main edit, another language version and a short practical answer. These are deliverables to negotiate, not extra files assumed to be free.

For meaningful spoken content, the W3C’s captions guidance provides an accessibility reference.

Use one editorial calendar

Add creator videos to the existing plan with six fields:

  1. traveller question;
  2. publication objective;
  3. asset or version;
  4. placement and date;
  5. responsible person;
  6. rights or information expiry.

Seasonal offers need removal dates. Evergreen content still needs checking after renovations or service changes.

Your library should make the approved version easy to identify. A sequence of folders labelled “final”, “final2” and “really-final” creates unnecessary uncertainty.

Keep brand consistency without removing the creator’s perspective

Set a small number of rules: accurate information, vocabulary, readability, graphic colours and claims to avoid.

Allow flexibility in viewpoint and scene progression. If every video follows the same institutional script, you may lose the value of an individual perspective.

Check the connection with the landing page too. A terrace-room video should lead to an offer where that category is clearly identifiable.

Measure use as well as performance

Start by checking which delivered files were actually published, on which channels and for what purpose.

Then choose a suitable measure. An arrival video may resolve confusion without directly creating a booking. A commercial campaign requires measurement closer to the sale.

For external campaign links, Google Analytics’ UTM documentation helps distinguish creative versions. The hotel UGC ROI guide explains attribution limitations.

Do not confuse a tidy production folder with an effective content strategy. Distribution and learning need owners too.

Start with a manageable cycle

Choose one need, a small set of assets and a review period. Publish, observe and decide whether to reuse, adapt or commission something different.

Check usage rights whenever adding a channel. The French Intellectual Property Code’s assignment requirements remain separate from editorial planning.

The aim is not to own more videos. It is for each video to make a part of your communication more useful.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need a separate UGC calendar?

Not necessarily. Add creator videos to your main calendar with fields for objective, source asset, rights, publication date and owner.

Can you publish the same video everywhere?

Only where the rights and format permit it. Also check channel relevance, captions, music and the context in which the content will appear.

How many UGC videos should a hotel publish each week?

There is no universal quota. Choose a sustainable cadence that answers real questions and leaves time to review results.

How do you keep creator content consistent with the brand?

Define useful rules for tone, factual accuracy, typography and prohibited uses. Leave room for individual storytelling instead of making every video identical.
